Youth ages 13 to 17 are welcome to become a student coach within AVAHA. Student Coaches must have approval from the coach of the team they want to coach for, their parents and the AVAHA Board. They must also meet the skills required and time commitment that is based by the head coach of the team. Student coaches may only assist with teams younger than their age group. Ashley Valley Hockey has a two-part application process for coaches. Once coaches are selected there are additional requirements to be completed that are listed below in Steps to Becoming a Coach.
1. Complete the Coach Application and submit it to avaha561@gmail.com before August 31, 2023. The Coaching Coordinator will contact you within about a week of the application being received.
2. Complete the Coach Selection process through the Coaching Director and AVAHA Board. Selection occurs between August and September.
3. Selected coaches will need to complete the online application after July 1, 2023, which includes your USA Hockey Number for the 2023-2024 season. Coaches must USA Hockey Coaching/Player register. Non-ice volunteers can use the USA Hockey Volunteer or Team Manager Number.
4. Selected coaches must complete all of the tasks under Steps on How to Become a USA Hockey Coach.
USA Hockey and the Coaching Education Program require both certification and registration to be eligible to coach. Registration is done online on a yearly basis. Certification is also required. A few basic steps requirements are as follows:
